Banjul Names African Nations Cup Squad

Lagos

Gambia named a 21-man squad yesterday to prepare for the upcoming 2004
AfricanNations Cup qualifiers, saying they would start training immediately for
their first match in September.

Coach Sang Ndong selected a squad of locally-based players but said he
would add Gambian players from clubs in Belgium, the Netherlands and
Sweden closer to the time.

Gambia start their Nations Cup qualifying campaign away against Sao Tome
and Principe on September 7. They also have Senegal, who reached the
World Cup quarter-finals, and Lesotho in their group.

Goalkeepers: Robert Badjie, Joseph Gomez (both Hawks), Tapha Minteh
(Steve Biko), Ansumana Samateh (Wallidan)

Defenders: Lamin Colley (Armed Forces), Abdurahman Conateh, Lamin
Conateh (both Wallidan), Abdoulie Coor (Hawks),

Alhagie Fatajo (Latdior), Joseph Jabang (Real Banjul), Dawda Janko
(Flamemins), Saihou Kujabi (Hawks), Assan Nyang (Sait Matty), Sheriff
Samba (Armed Forces)
