Subject: IFANG BONDI - TOUR DATES 2000

IFANG BONDI - TOUR DATES 2000 - IFANG BONDI - TOUR DATES 2000

Roots pioneers IFANG BONDI of The Gambia, led by founder-member BADOU
JOBE, firmly established themselves as a seminal force in modern West
African music.
Ifang Bondi are undeniably one of West Africa's most authentic groups.
Uncompromising in their music, uncompromising in their lyrics they live
up to the Mandingo meaning of their name: 'Be yourself'.

With their latest highly accaimed album GIS GIS - declared best world
music album of 98 by UK's leading music magazine Q - Ifang Bondi
continue to explore the music traditions of the Mandingo, Wolof, Fula
and Jola.
In addition Badou Jobe received in September 99 the prestigious KORA All
African Music Award - the African equivalent of the Grammy award - on
the strength of his innovative compositions featured on the CD Gis Gis.

Says the press:
"Their pole position in the African Music Hall of Fame is already
assured. Their contribution in many ways parallels that of Thomas
Mapfumo; they fought a lonely battle against creeping cultural
colonisation. And won." Rob Prince, Folk Roots/UK
"Younger musicians have followed Ifang Bondi, but few can match their
depth and versatility." Chris Stapleton, Q / UK
"Here they are, operating at awesome velocity and intensity. The sort of
music that makes you want to put the CD player on endless repeat."
Rick Sanders, froots/UK

On stage Ifang Bondi couple musical virtuosity with a high-energy
performance.
A dazzling constellation of guitar, kora, riti and keyboards orbits
around the nucleus formed by the phenomenal rhythm section while the
lead singers' soaring vocals and their dynamic stage presence reach out
to grip the audience.

The line-up features kora virtuoso Jali Momodou Suso, riti player Juldeh
Camara - the wildest gypsy fiddler outside the Balkans - and the
dynamite voice of lead singer El Hadj Samb. Achingly sweet tunes by Lin
'Mr. Goldfinger' Diaw on guitar and Tafa Ndiaye on keyboards, and
thunder grooves by percussion ace Bassirou Mbaye, drummer Mandiaye "Mr.
Cool' Diop and bass giant Badou Jobe himself.
