Happy Birthday Mr President

A Gambian Assignment

President Yahya Jammeh of Gambia professes to have invented a cure for
Aids and has declared himself a hero of agriculture and development.

He’s also a man who likes to celebrate his birthday in style. This
year he hosted Jermaine Jackson, the brother of Michael Jackson, for a
stadium concert - publicised to be in the president's honour and that
of the late King of Pop.

Yahya Jammeh has maintained a firm grip on power since taking over in
a military coup in 1994. His critics accuse of him of being
authoritarian and human rights groups say he's brutally suppressed
opponents and the free press.

For Assignment, Ed Butler visits Africa’s smallest country and
examines the legacy of one of the continent’s longest-serving leaders.

Assignment: Happy Birthday Mr President - on air and online from
