'Jammeh's 2006 victory will come from women'

Fatoumatta Jahumpa Ceesay, APRC nominated National
Assembly member, has declared the readiness of Gambian
women to vote in President Jammeh come 2006 with
another landslide victory.


She said women were ready to challenge their male
counterparts in the country's development process,
adding that "in the 2006 Presidential election, even
if men hold onto their votes, President Jammeh will be
massively voted into office by the women.


Fatoumatta Jahumpa Ceesay was speaking at the adoption
ceremony of Abdoulie Kujabi, NIA director general as
"Father" of a women's association in Faraba Banta over
the weekend.
She said Gambian women would ever remain loyal to
President Jammeh, adding that Jammeh's July 22 address
lauded women's contribution to national development.
"Therefore on August 17 all the women across the
country will convene in Kanilai to take part in the
President Farming retreat in appreciation of his
(Jammeh) good vision for the women," she said.


Mrs Jahumpa Ceesay refuted allegations that personnel
of the National Intelligence Agency should not
interfere in politics, noting that even in Western
countries, their intelligence agencies are actively
involved in their country's political process.
Nyimasata Sanneh-Bojang, nominated NAM said since
everybody could not lead at the same time, "if
therefore President Jammeh is chosen to be our leader
we should follow him".


Mrs Sanneh-Bojang added that the high powered
delegation behind Abdoulie Kujabi is not because of
his relation with the president but his care for the
people.
Kebba Touray, National Assembly Member for Kombo East
said since this government came to power in 1994 they
had empowered Gambian women to contribute meaningfully
to national development.


Messeng Jatta, adopted "Mother" of the association
promised that Faraba Banta would remain loyal to the
APRC.
She appealed for the government to help them with an
income generating project and a new market to sell
their products.


Fansu Jung Conteh, Seyfo of Kombo East, said President
Jammeh's eight-year rule was a testimony of his good
governance compared to 300 and 30 years of colonial
and Jawara's ruled respectively. He said, "Jammeh is a
man of peace and wisdom" since he has fostered unity
and peace in the African sub-region.
The ceremony was attended by secretaries of state,
National Assembly members, councillors, APRC Yai
Compins and a cross-section of the civil society.
