Mustapha Njie Replaces Sarja Taal

Mustapha Njie, 44, formerly secretary to the APRC central executive of the
Western Division, and councillor for Latrikunda and Dippakunda in the
Kanifing municipality, has been appointed general-secretary of the ruling
APRC. He replaces Dr Saja Taal who was removed from office last week.

Talking to our reporter Alieu in his office at Gamstar House yesterday, Mr.
Njie said, "I can assure you that I am the occupant of this office. I
replace Dr Saja Taal and I assumed office Monday January 29. I see the
appointment as a challenge. I have dealt with the grassroots for a long
time. I enjoyed it, and of course, part of my job will be to bring APRC
supporters together and to bring in those people outside to the party."

Mr. Njie however refused to elaborate. "I am new in this office and I am
still studying the files. I shall grant you an interview when I settle
down."

Reacting to Mr. Njie's appointment at the APRC bureau later, Saihou Janko,
an APRC youth leader said, "We are pleased about Mr. Njie's appointment. He
is honest and dedicated to the interest of the party."

No reasons were publicly given for Dr Taal's removal by the APRC leadership.
