" Now that we have ensured that the oil industry has been placed on the path
to equilibrium, Government will pull out and let the private sector
participants coordinate petroleum supply and marketing."

Hon. Famara L. Jatta, SoS Finance's 2003 Budget Speech delivered before the
National Assembly on Friday, 13 December 2002

**************************************************************

This statement is most welcomed. Government should stick with their
regulatory functions within a well-defined and balanced legislative
framework, as proposed in the budget, and leave the oil industry to do what
they know and do best: supply, distribute and market their petroleum
products.

Sidi Sanneh
