When Gambians at a later date reflect on the very dark days of Yahya Jammeh's
regime, they will find in Ahmadou Samba a person who combine insatiable
greed, wickedness and utter disregard for the fate of his countrymen. He
singularly stands as Yahya Jammeh's most ardent enabler in the sinister bid
to to destroy Gambia and it's people. Over the past years he has employed
every underhanded tactic to line his pockets.Depending on what opportunity
presents itself, Ahmadou would either maneuver behind the scenes or overtly
use strong arm tactics on potential competitors to steer money his way. He is
not a legitimate businessman remotely interested in making an honest living.
Instead he spends all his time oiling the corrupt machine that is represented
by Yahya. Consequently he has emerged as the Presidents' principal crony
dabbling in every facet of national life with potential for corruption. The
current scandal surrounding Nawec is a vivid illustration of Ahmadou and his
ways. Sensing and opportunity for a kickback, he engineers the removal of the
managing director when the guy for whatever reason was unwilling to cancel an
earlier deal with a UK based firm. Mr Samba and his twin cronyTarik Musa were
acting as boosters for a different firm and that was all that mattered as
far as they were concerned. It didn't matter that as businessmen unconnected
to either the negotiation or procurement of the generator, they were in no
position to demand anything . Ahmadou just smelled money and he had to get it
and if the guy at Nawec did not want to play ball and reverse company
arrangements , then he had to be a casaulty.Caught in this blatant and
illegal grab for kickbacks , he professes innocence and proclaims himself an
ordinary businessman who was just acting as a facilitator and besides was
going save the taxpayer close to a million dollars. As absurd and fanciful as
that may be , it is probably the most the average Gambian would get from
Ahmadou as of now. He is a certified and unrepentant crook who would traffic
in human organs if he thought he could make a buck from it.
One of the first people to be held accountable for crimes against the
Gambian people post Yahya is going to be Ahmadou Samba. He thinks he is
sufficiently clever to cover his tracks in both perpetrating and serving as a
compensated conduit for financial crimes. We know all about his activities.
Following him on the dock would be Tarik Musa. They can peddle all the lies
they want from now to November. That's it.
