Conteh,

You've raised some important issues, but like I told
you on the phone, we've got to give these people on
the ground a chance to get together and hash out the
modalities of a coalition. Darbo said he is open to
it, and will write FORMALLY to all the opposition
parties when he gets home. Hamat Bah told us he is
open to it, and that he's all ears. Halifa Sallah has
stated very clearly what Pdois' position is. Pdois has
the novel idea of having a coalition President serve
only a year or so while the requisite democratic Legal
Instruments are put in place constitutionally. (I
agree with them wholeheartedly. With ALL parties
equally represented in such negotiations, we can have
ALL the legal safeguards againts future abuse of power
in place, after which a new election could be held to
give a clean mandate to one party to rule us.)

I believe Karamba's frustration has to do with the
fact that, you often give the impression that the UDP
is averse to a coalition, when in fact they're not.
And more importantly, if even one of the opposition
parties decide not to join a coalition, there's
nothing anyone can do about it. I mean we couldn't
force Joe Joof to answer our questions at the ALD,
what makes you think that we can force parties to come
together? All we can do is appeal to them. We have.
And they've all said, they'll get together to work
things out. Now as I understand it, Darbo and his
people are still in Europe. I don't think it'll hurt
us to wait until after his return to the Gambia to see
if he follows through with his promise to engage
others and get this coalition train moving. If he
doesn't, be rest assured that you'll have a lot of
company in going after him. But until then, this
incessant criticisms of them is unjustified. Why?
Because you're telling them to do something they've
already said they'll do, only that they HAVE to be on
the ground to get the ball rolling which they're not.
So, where's the reason for the blame for their
inaction?

One has to have a sinister agenda to call you
reactionary (anti-opposition,) but when you keep
throwing around unjustified criticisms at opposition
groups, you're bound to undercut your own credibility,
ar at the very least, the seriousness with which
people view you. There's something very irritating
about repeating the same request over and over. I
think you've done a lot of good to the struggle to
unseat Yaya to do that to yourself. So, please go slow
Comrade. You've made your point. Let's hear from them,
before passing judgment.
Good morning.

With respect from your little brother,
Saul.
