SCARY DEATH STORIES FROM HOME? Yankuba Touray arrested?
                       BY LAMIN CEESAY
The security situation in The Gambia is becoming scary day by the day. Reports have it that some of the detainees died in custody. The government has not cleared the air on this disturbing state of affairs. Reporter Lamin Ceesay, has been closely monitoring developments and he now reports:
The talk of the town yesterday was that Alieu Jobe, the former Accountant General and an alleged coupist was said to have died. Prior to his alleged death, Alieu Jobe was in a very critical conditions and was taken to MRC for treatment but was refused by the MRC authorities for treatment. This was done to hide Alieu's poor health conditions from the general public.

  YANKS ARRESTED?
TORTURES: Alieu and his co accused are seriously under severe torture conditions. Reports say that, Capt.Bunja Darboe has lost boths hands due to severe beatings meted out to him and his colleagues at the Mile Two Prisons. On the night of the arrest of Sheriff Dibba, he was seriously beaten by security forces. People even fear that Sheriff Dibba's body may not withstand the torture he had received. Lie Conteh is also said to have been seriously beaten and his (Lai Conteh) death is widely talked in town.
DABA MARENA:At the moment, Daba Marena's Kanifing Estate compound is full of mourners. People come in their large numbers to pay their condolences to his family. Also, his two wives are currently observing the widowhood.
BAI CHAM: An employee of the GIA has been released but is said to have been suffering from serious beatings from the security forces. His body is still swollen.
YANKUBA TOURAY: It said that Yankuba Toyray,SOS for Agric has been arrested. At the time of going to the press, we are still investigating on the alleged arrest of Yanks. We promise to clear the air on the arrest of Yanks, Alieu Jobe and Lie Conteh's deaths. Major Pierre Mendy &Abdoulie Kujabi: Both visited RVTH on Tuesday for treatment under heavy security.
PRE.YAYA JAMMEH: Yaya do visits the prisons to witness the beatings of the accused coupists. He always furiates when these people are being beaten and used to tell them that they (coupists)are very ungrateful to him because he has helped them to elevate their living standards, but on the whole, they had a bad intention for him.

Observers have urged the government to produce the bodies of the detainees in a bid to bring sanity into their families. Many familes are worried about the fate of the accused detainees.
President Jammeh came to power in July of 1994, through a coup. He claimed to have survived over ten failed coup attempts, in a span of eleven years. In his state address shortly after the arrest of the alleged coupists, Jammeh said this time around he will set a drastic example against those bent on toppling his government. The President said he will crush them to death.
Earlier on,in an interview with the Freedom Newspaper, the hospital administrator Alhagie Baboucarr Ngum denied knowledge about the death Abdoulie Kujabi an unlce to the head of state. Kujabi, also a former NIA boss was accused of planning to overthrow Jammeh's government. Hospital sources say Kujabi was spotted at the RVH, this past week while looking crtically ill. He was alleged to have been tortured by his captives.
Mr. Ngum says the news of Kujabi's death was not officially relayed to him and was not in the position to confirm the story. But local hospital sources told this paper that the detainees had little chances of surviving in view of their poor state of health. They say the detainees were taken to the intensive care unit, but later moved to an undisclosed location. The government is not keen at discussing the fate of the detainees, whoese whereabouts is of great concern not only to their families, but to Gambians as well. Speculations and counter speculations continue to grip the nation.
