Ron, thanks for increasing our knowledge of the relationship between Mafy
and Pa Sallah's brother. One would have thought that their personal
relationship would have made it easier for Mafy to give Pa Sallah his due
and work with him as the people's choice. Now we all know that Mafy's bond
with Yaya is more valued.

It is about time Gambians really see the value that Halifa Sallah brings to
the table of national discourse. I say this because at the first session of
the National Assembly, Halifa had advised the membership of the need to
follow the rules of order, the need to think through pieces of legislations,
on how Mr. Dibba should conduct the proceedings according to the
constitution, and what the constitution says about transitioning from
predecessor to successor or the beginning of a new term, etc. The majority
party members jumped up and down jabbing about that the Assembly is not a
University, that they would not tolerate lectures from anyone, yada, yada,
yada. Ladies and gentlemen, that was a preemptive strike, for what these
NAMs were really fighting against was to be productive for a change. They
were accustomed to coming to the assembly empty and leaving it empty. Most
of these folks do not even read the newspapers much more ponder on the
future impact of a piece of legislation. Some of them spend most of the
time dozing off and never heard a word about anything that transpired during
the entire sitting, but upon being resuscitated from their comma, are the
first to raise their hand to vote in favor of anything. All they have to do
is look at certain props and vote the same way. Just like Halifa predicted,
here we are, faced with a legislation that did not specify the procedures or
time-lapse for beginning or concluding a transition for the Mayor-elect.
Let us for a change focus on the message and not the messenger.
