The Chairman of the APRC Serekunda Central Executive Committee, Kitim Gibba has countered Sainey Jaiteh's remarks carried by The Independent that his committee is bias.

"The comments made by Sainey Jaiteh are false and baseless because the APRC Secretariat mandated us to select a candidate," he said. "Initially, five candidates expressed their desire to contest the seat, but all of them withdrew except Lai and Sainey. When the primary election was held, Lai emerged winner with 24 while Sainey got six votes. Four were absent for reasons I don't know."

The Assistant Administrative Secretary of APRC, Adama Cham said it is the responsibility of electorate to select their choice of candidate. "The names of selected candidates are forwarded to the party bureau for approval. We have nothing to do with their decision because power belongs to them. The bureau approves Lai Sanyang's candidature based on that," he said.

However, sources informed our reporter that the selection of Lai Sanyang as the candidate for Serekunda Central by-election has aggravated the already division among APRC supporters. Sources also reported a large number of APRC supporters have visited Halifa Sallah's house, pledging support for him. "We have done our ground work in 2001, so we have nothing to do now," said Halifa's supporter.

Embittered by the selection of Lai who he described as a man without strong political background and experience to stand against Halifa, Sainey Jaiteh opened a war of words with Lai Sanyang. On the otherhand, Lai viewed Sainey as an opportunist who is never an APRC supporter. "He is just interested in seeking position," Lai punched.

The fury between the two, our sources added, is so tense that it results to division within the party's supporters in Serekunda Central.
