Senegalese high commissioner 'recalled' Written by Abdoulie John Monday, 10 April 2006 Mr Ndiouga N' diaye, the Senegalese High Commissioner to The Gambia, has been recalled by the Senegalese government "for consultation", according to Le Quotidien, a Senegalese daily.
About two weeks ago, Mr Tamsir Jasseh, one of the suspects in the March 21 abortive coup, alleged that he had met with Mr N'diaye at the Senegalese High Commission and discussed how the militaries of both countries could cooperate and "let the politicians solve their own issues". After which he was contacted by one Mr Pape Seck, a purported Senegalese military intelligence officer.

Since the coup plot was foiled on March 21, its mastermind, Ndure Cham, the former Chief of Defence, has been on the run. Reports claimed that he had escaped to Casamance, Senegal. Last week, the Senegalese government stated in a press release that "Senegal will neither harbour nor be a peace haven for coup plotters".

Meanwhile, the Senegalese News Agency (APS) has reported that Mr Lamin Bajo, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs who was on transit in Dakar last Friday, met with his Senegalese counterpart, Cheikh Tidiane Gadio. The two ministers of External Affairs seized the opportunity to discuss issues relating to the abortive coup. They agreed to meet in Banjul this week.

The state-owned news agency added that the Gambian government has already requested from Senegal "a judicial cooperation" in order to investigate the presence of suspected elements within the Senegalese territory.
