Even I was jaded by this one. I can understand Yahya's joy and excitement at
his newborn. In fact my son was born at exactly midnight on December 31st.
There are many more people who had children on more momentous dates. I think
Yahya was beside himself to encumber all Gambia to honour the birth of baby
Yahya. That is just superfluous. I mean I like Yahya and I congratulate him and
the first lady on the birth of their first son, but in the whole scheme of
things, a son is no more valuable than a daughter and the nation's business is
a bit more important than any one child.

Anyway Suntou, I wouldn't go as far as believing he's mad. After all, Yahya
is not forcing any idiot to take a day off. The lazy dipsticks will take any
day off. Even the day Yahya remarked a two-headed coconut. What a Kountry!!

Haruna.

The President is the Nation and the Nation, well, no longer matters. How

Baba

Holiday Declared For Naming Of President’s Son
By The Gambia Journal

Banjul, The Gambia Journal

GRTS radio announced that the office of the President at State House, has
declared Monday December 31st a public holiday in honor of the official
naming ceremony of baby Muhamed Yahya Jammeh. It is the first time the birth
of a living baby is being officially celebrated in The Gambia. In the run up
to the celebrations, one of our Banjul correspondents wrote, a wave of
sycophancy, as never seen before, is being displayed, with prominent
personalities, state departments, parastatals, private businessmen and
companies and institutions competing with each other in the sizes of gifts
and donations to President Jammeh. They have bought up all newspaper space
to send congratulatory messages on the occasion.
