Mr Jassey-Conteh,

I respect your position. I am sure you will not disagree that the main task
before every Gambian is how to enhance the liberty and prosperity of our
people.

Statistics do reveal that our peasants earn an income of D1812 a year since
Jawara's days up to this very day. 34% of the population are likely to die
before the age of 40. 50 % of the population are without safe drinking
water. Most of our people live in huts in the rural areas, or congested
urban dwellings. Less than 40,000 people can find work in the public or
private establishments, while 132,000 children enrolled in primary schools
in 1996 will be out in the streets before 2010.

I believe the duty of every Gambian and political party for that matter, is
to debate on these issues and find a solution to these and other problems,
instead of arguing whether Socialism or Communism are dead or alive. We will
be opening up a website hopefully by next week where we will be posting how
PDOIS intends to handle the problems of The Gambia. We hope you will be
visiting this website in order to critique our views constructively. We hope
other political parties will do the same.

I hope our disagreement on how to approach any given issue will not give
rise to castigations and ill feelings. We share the same country, but do not
necessarily have to share the same vision of how to carve its future. We do
not claim to have all the answers, but what we do promise is that we will
never be part of a government which will preside over the disintegration of
our country or the negation of the liberty and prosperity of our people.

With respect.

Halifa Sallah.

ML Jassey-Conteh,

You must appreciate that this issue has become a very complex one. The
position of the UDP leadership is that no member of their entourage has
actually engaged in killing anyone. Their argument is not that as a result
of an ambush there was fighting which resulted in death in self defense.

You may be able to appreciate the difficulty in making statements on this
matter when those charged are still formulating their defense.

I do not understand what you mean when you asserted that I have taken a
neutral ground on crimes against Gambians such as murder, rape, etc. I would
like to think that I have always called for action to be taken when such
crimes are alleged.

You are, however, free to point out any lapses and make recommendations as
to what should be done in any given case. I would definitely like to play a
very constructive role in helping to shape the destiny of this country. If
you are troubled by any posture, you may send me an open or personal mail to
raise questions for explanation.

Notwithstanding, I thank you for having regard to my opinion on national
matters. Through dialogue we may learn from reach other in order to develop
realistic positions on national matters.

THE ABOVE POSTINGS FROM BROTHER HALIFA SALLAH BROKE A SPINE IN MY BACK. MY
CONCLUSION IS THAT WE NEED A PRIMARY FOR THE OPPOSITION. PLEASE READ MY
PROPOSAL.

Executive Committees of NRP, PDOIS & UDP
The Gambia
West Africa

Dear Patriots:

I wish to take the opportunity in thanking you for your endless struggles
against the dictatorship in The Gambia. I must admit that without your
efforts, our cries for justice, love and compassion in The Gambia would not
have echoed around the world.

There is, however, one critical epidemic that the members of a free Gambia
must accept as the only deterrent in getting rid of The Gambian dictator.
Brothers, and sisters, ladies and gentlemen, this cancer is called disarray.
I want to appeal to the members of your executive committees to come to the
meeting of minds to schedule a primary election to determine the winner for
the opposition.

After numerous debates with Mr. Halifa Sallah, I am convinced that the entire
opposition cannot win against dictator yahya jamus if each individual
opposition entity is determined to be only the savior of Gambians. We must
take a page from the Senegalese people and practice genuine "SOPPY."

The opposition members at Gambia L are trying day in and out to provide
substantive issues for the salvation of our country. We believe that our
cries for help should not be ignored by any member of the opposition. If we
believe that dictator yahya jamus is the worst thing that ever happened to
The Gambia, we must the seek the interest of our children and unite. The
slaughter and rape of our innocent school kids must not go in vain. Foroyaa
will rescue us, but Jonyaa will keep us suffering.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Comrade,

Muhammad Lamine Jassey-Conteh
