A SAD CASE FOR A CORRUPT GAMBIAN MINISTER-YANKUBA TOURAY TRYING TO BEAT THE SYSTEM!!!
Gambia’s agriculture Minister Yankuba Touray, is not learning from past corruption indictments declared against him by the famous Paul Commission. Barely few months after his reinstatement, Yanks has started dipping his hands into state coffers to take care of his pregnant wife, who is currently in the US. Lady Mami Minteh Touray is again in the US in a span of one year to deliver. She is expecting a baby in few months time, the Freedom Newspaper can report.
YANKUBA TOURAY IN CORRUPTION SCAM AGAIN!!!!
It was between 2004 to 2005, when Mami Minteh Touray came to the United States to deliver. During her maternal visit, Yanks was not working with the government of the day. He was fired at the time. But notwithstanding the disgraced Minister managed to pay for the wife’s air ticket and medical bills amounting to roughly about $15,000 dollars. In a span of one year Mami Touray is pregnant once again and is expecting a baby. She is currently residing in the US State of North Carolina Raleigh. Mami is expecting a baby in four months time, said our source who is privy of Yanks struggle to ensure that his remaining sons and daughters are US Citizens.
From last year to now Minister Touray, who receives less than $600 dollars salary per month, was able to raise over $50,000 dollars to pay for his wife’s medical bills in the US. Mr. Touray’s wife is not a holder of Medical insurance in the United States. During her last year’s visit the lady was admitted at a major hospital in Raleigh North Carolina, where sources say she was supposed to pay nothing less than $10,000 dollars for two days admission. Doctors fees and other medical expenditures were not added to the sum above.
President Jammeh started the race by sending his wife to deliver in the US few years ago. Since then, the likes of Yankuba Touray are saying that “if the President is doing it why can't I do it.” But Yank’s move is becoming unprecedented in many ways. First and foremost, he is devoting all his time and resources just to have a child. Second, there is nothing wrong for one to send his wife to deliver in the US, but it should be done in the right channel.
We are opposed to people stealing our national coffers just to suit their own personal aggrandizement. Yankuba Touray’s salary as a Minister is less then $600 dollars and how on earth can this Minister raised $50,000 dollars in a span of two years? It is not possible. When people talked about his corrupt practices, he will tell you that “my wife is a business woman.” What business woman? Mami’s business cannot cater for such exorbitant expenses.
We all know how expensive medi care is in the US. Companies are paying millions of dollars just to cater for their workers. A poor dude like Yankuba Touray cannot afford such expensive bills. It is evident that he steals from state coffers to live large. A day will come, he will account for the monies he had stolen from our nation.
In Jammeh’s government, if you are not corrupt you don’t win the sympathy of the President. Jammeh enjoys the company of corrupt Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and other top officials in government. Corruption is institutionalized across the board. The likes of Yankuba Touray are owing the state millions of dalasis and yet are allowed to work for The Gambian government.
These corrupt officials are hell bent on beating the US system. It is time for the United States government to apply travel ban on corrupt Gambian Ministers, as it did on the then Charles Taylor administration. If President Mugabe and his government can face travel ban, why not corrupt Gambian Ministers stealing public funds just to have their wives delivered here in the US.
We gathered that they have stopped going to Britain, our former colonial masters following birth law changes there. They got to be resident in the United Kingdom for some years before their loved ones can qualify to be British subjects. The US government should issue embargo against corrupt Gambian Ministers. They are denying development to our country and her people. Our Ministers should be transparent and stop the money laundering schemes they are engaged.
Why is Yankuba Touray not allowing his wife to deliver at the RVTH or other local hospitals in the country? Is Yankuba’s wife better than our hard working women? Why the gender discrimination here? A government that says it toppled the PPP government for massive corruption and flamboyance life style is today doing the worse. What can Yankuba Touray tell the former PPP? Shame on these thieves.
The problem with this government is that they don’t want our country. They all underestimated the very services they want local people to use. This is why most of them have properties and bank accounts abroad. In short, they are just greedy. They want all and will likely lose all one day. Please preserve our national coffers. Our people need it. They are dying of hunger and malnutrition. Yankuba Touray’s latest corruption racket is a serious one for that matter. What an embarrassing state of affairs involving a Minister?
The Freedom Newspaper, has been closely investigating Minister Touray’s corruption scams in recent days. We have a lot of information about Yankuba’s secret money wiring and will release it in due course. We challenge him to attempt to dispute or deny our investigative piece. He will live to regret it, as we have damaging revelations against him. This paper is not here to please anybody. We do not care to be called names, but we must report the truth. We cannot watch by allowing Yankuba Touray and his cronies mortgaging our country. We will be doing disservice to our country, if we failed to expose the corrupt practices of this government.
The Freedom Newspaper, gathered that most of those in high places in government are in the habit of sending their wives in the US to deliver and run back home only to smear the names of ordinary Gambian citizens whose intention is travel to the US on genuine basis. These are the same people who lied against ordinary Gambians just to meet their vicious intention. Doubts are being raised in some quarters, as to whether some of these hospital bills are being paid by these Gambian officials wives. Let Yanks provoke us and we will publish damning revelations we have.
Yankuba Touray cannot tell us that his wife is having free medical care in the US. His family in the US cannot raise such expensive medical bills. We challenge him once again to show us proves that he acquired the funds legally to pay for his wife’s hospital bills.
Yankuba Touray is a roaming criminal, who should not be harbored by any government that worth its salt. The likes of Yankuba Touray contributed to Jammeh’s failure to some extent. Yes, he is a charismatic politician, but who cares? It is unfair for Jammeh to keep such anti progress individuals bent on undermining development in The Gambia. He wants to gather support for Jammeh at the same time duping the nation. This is unacceptable. Such corrupt dudes should not be accommodated by any civilized government committed to the governance goals.
The International Monetary Fund, World Bank and other development partners are here by informed that the government in Banjul are aiding and abetting corrupt officials like Yankuba Touray. Touray is a menace to development. We are urging donor agencies to join us in making this dictatorial government accountable. Yankuba Touray should end this day light robbery. Our country don’t need his types. He is a blood sucker and money launderer for that matter.
There are more revelations to come. Yankuba is far from clean. He is not showing any sign of remorse to the damning Paul Commission report. This was not what Mighty Paul recommended to Jammeh. Yanks and co should be taken to our schools system to tell our kids the dangers of corruption since they have been found wanting by Justice Paul. Anything short of this, will not be acceptable.
This is a reminder to the head of The Gambian Mission in New York, that the Freedom Newspaper is aware of your misinterpretation. We will live up to expectations and we like challenges because we will prove our critics wrong. This paper is here to report the truth and nothing but the truth.
