Ngai,

If it is ordained, I may become Gamtel MD some day. However that is not part
of my priorities at the moment. Given long life and good health I can be
anything, God willing. If to please the government was my only objective, I
would have been very sellective of what I write about. There is nobody on
this list who can honestly say that I don't condemn the government when they
things that are not in the interest of the Gammbian people.

Talking of fredom of speech and the questioning of Imam Leigh, the
Independent should have done the decnt thing to clear the air. According to
the Independent, the Imam was quoted as saying that the 3million or so
Dalasis spent on NAYCOF 2001 was money wasted. This he denied saying.
According to him, his sermon was about the amount of money wasted on
ceremonies such as naming cermonies, marriages etc. To imply that Imam Leigh
was condemning a national event whose main objective in addition to others,
was to promote responsible behaviour especially with regrds to safe sex is
most unprofessional. When Imam Leigh clarified his possition, don't you
think the paper should also have reported it. Ngai don't kid yourself, many
on this list will tell you that the freedom of speech enjoyed in The Gambia
today is much more than what used to prevail.

Have a good, Gassa.
