Fatoumata Jahumpa was my colleague too at Radio Gambia (1981-83), and the only explanation for her recent actions and statements could be that she sold her soul to the devil--Dr. (dictator) Jammeh. Her statements say a lot about the character of the current regime, with its reference to critics decomposing at the bottom of the sea. And has anyone figured out what she was marching for in the wake of the student massacres? It amazes me what many short-sighted people are capable of doing to receive a salary.

Do these people pay any attention to African political history to understand what they are doing and the fate that awaits them and their boss? Jammeh's days are clearly numbered; and you don't have to be any scientist (rocket or otherwise) to figure that out. Slavish civil servants like Jahumpa don't think there is anything they can do to make a living but serve the despotic regime. It's so sad!

On proposals presented on this forum, I
(1) am opposed to any amnesty that covers crimes involving loss of lives;
(2) reject the proposal for the payment of pensions for people who have traumatized the nation like never before (This could only encourage similar acts in the future.);
(3) believe that all those serving Jammeh are tainted (including Dr. Sedat Jobe), and therefore should not be considered for anything other than being booted out of office and investigated for possible wrongdoing;
(4) don't think Jammeh will take any of the proposals seriously unless he is under intense heat from the Gambian and international communities;
(5) sincerely doubt that the APRC regime is capable of organizing free and fair elections, especially given the serious erosion of any (semblance of)legitimacy it may have had; and,
(6) fear any takeover by those who claim to be within the ranks of the Gambian army (new "soldiers with a difference"), unless they are committed to handing over power within months and disbanding the army for good.

That's my view from the Tennessee mountains!
