Well, what we are seeing is classic Yaya Jammeh at work conjuring up his
tricks as usual, and he does this every time he is backed into a corner.

When the heat was on at the height of the Nigerian oil scandal, he staged an
attempted coup to get rid of a few of those close to him who probably knew
something about the details of that scandal and were possible threats.

After he ordered the shooting of the kids who were exercising their right to
demonstrate their dissatisfaction regarding some other injustice he and his
forces had perpetrated, he shed crocodile tears, and visited the wounded and
maimed at the hospital, handing out gifts.
Now, he is scared to death after the recent wave of people taking back their
governments as has happended in Ivory Coast, Senegal and Yugoslavia. These
new tricks are another simplistic attempt to clean up his image, but there
isn't enough soap in this World to do that.

Did Jammeh not state in an interview recently that he was providing
accomodation for refugees. Charity begins at home, and while the Gambian
people are suffering due to mismanagement and a dying economy, Jammeh thinks
he can fool the World into believing that he is rescuing refugees.

This was nothing but a blatant attempt to justify the hoard of foreigners he
has imported into the country as his insurance at election time. According to
reports from people on the ground, there are hundreds, if not thousands of
non Gambians in the Serrekunda and Brikama areas, hoardes of them.Last year
when Jammeh instituted the idea of Gambians having Identity cards, I was
convinced that there was a motive behind it. These so called refugees are
perhaps his passport at the polls come election day, especially if they have
Gambian identity cards.

<< This story is culled from bbc.I find it very amusing that the Jammeh
government is claiming that ,it doesn't want the Gambia to used as save
haven for people suspected of human rights abuse.Who are they kidding ?This
man[Jammeh] is one of most vicious of human rights violators in west
Africa. What would jammeh call the execution of students on APRIL 10,the
execution of Gibril Saye and other members of the armed forces on November
11and 12,how about the abduction of the Dumo Saho's,who have been held
incumminucado for months. The Gambia is ofcourse a safe haven for human
rights abusers as the champion of humam rights abuse is housed at the state
house in the person of YAHYA AJJ JAMMEH.
