Sillah,
I join Mboge in informing you that the briefing session did go ahead and was
a success beyond belief. As Mboge rightly pointed out, the chair of the mov't
and key convener of the briefing session, Mr. James Bahoum, will be online
later to give a more formal, detailed and up to date report on the briefing
session.
The briefing session's success lay not only in the huge turnout from both the
Gambian Diaspora and concerned friends in the UK, but the consensus that
emerged that: Left unattended, the Gambia is a disaster waiting to happen.
Hence, it was TACIT agreement - mutatis mutandis - that a united front from
the political opposition complemented by pressures from friends of the Gambia
in different capacities could help a lot in turning things around. Of
particular importance, is the central theme of OJ's message which called for
a more rigorous, sustained and aggressive campaign to contain and diminish
the lethal-ness of the dictatorship.
Another speaker that Mboge forgot to mention was ex president Jawara, who
repeated other speakers call for a more concerted pressure on the Jammeh
regime, especially on the election agenda which could turn out to be a make
or break for the Gambia.
Please expect a more formal and detailed report from Mr. Bahoum.
All the best,
Hamjatta - Kanteh
