Dear ADNA members,

Following find a brief analysis of President Bush's first week in the
White Housue regarding Africa and foreign policy, as published in
the LA Times today, in an Op Ed from Salih Booker - Executive
Director of APIC, the Africa Fund, and the American Committe on
Africa. We have our work cut out for us in the next four years.
Feel free to share this reference with your contacts.

Subject: Salih Booker's op-ed in the LA Times today

In a commentary in today's LA Times, Africa Fund/ACOA/APIC
Executive Director Salih Booker decries President Bush's recent
actions in reinstating the global "gag rule" and in considering
reversing the Executive Order allowing for compulsory licensing and
parallel imports in African countries. These first actions by the new
President fundamentally undermine the US commitment to
addressing the AIDS pandemic in Africa and elsewhere and clearly
reveal the lack of interest of the new Administration in the people of
Africa. Please circulate this piece widely.
