Dear List members,

The Gambian community in Houston has informed of the death of a Gambian
brother, Saul Jeng. Apparently,Thursday evening, someone came to his
apartment and knocked on his door. When he opened the door, they opened fire
on him, shooting him five times. He died shortly after that at a local
hospital. They said he was able to talk to the police before his death.
Someone visiting him was in the apartment when this occurred. The city so
far had refused to release any information to anyone who is not immediate
family, but a Gambian lawyer living in Maryland has agreed to represent the
family, so hopefully, Houston police will share any information gathered
with him.
The small Gambian community in Houston is trying to collect funds to take
care of the expenses of preparing the body and sending it home to his loved
ones in Gambia for burial. There is a muslim funeral directorate that has a
mortuary. The city will release the body to them tomorrow, Monday, and they
will be responsible for all preparations and transport of the body home, and
the service also includes airfare etc. The total cost for this is
$6,500.00. There has been a memorial fund set up at one of the local banks
as follows:

Sulaye Jeng Memorial Fund,
Washington Mutual Savings Bank,
Wilcrest & Bel Aire
Houston, Texas.
Tel: 1-800-788-7000
A/C No. 351-0000-621-3480

They are appealing to Gambians and Gambian organizations everywhere to
please make a small contribution so that this young brother can be sent home
to his loved ones for burial. If you have any questions regarding the wiring
of money, please feel free to call the bank for clarification. l will try
to get a contact number in Houston if anyone wants to call there. l do have
some numbers, but forgot to ask permission to list them in case anyone wants
to call.
Please send a contribution, especially in the spirit of this holy month of
Ramadan. Thank you.

Jabou Joh
