Gambians, especially those in the Diaspora, had all our kola nuts in one
basket [unified coalition/opposition] instead of calculating a
hypothetical/unexpected scenario of splinter opposition. Let's not despair
and therefore start aiming at each other's jugular vein, as a SECOND ROUND
Voting is more than likely to happen..viola...E=mc2. The questions and
answers to conflict, power, self-interest and compromise will be the order of
the day. Hence, the reason, why the squabble between UDP/PPP - PDOIS -NCP/NCP
cease right now. There exist a broader common-ground amongst the opposition
than differences, hence the need to debate PLATFORM ISSUES in a dignified
manner and come October 19, 2001, compromise at all cost. As a realist, a
wise advice to The UDP/PPP coalition, is to tread carefully on the shaky
ground the political landscape is built on, as PDOIS, NCP AND NRP's support
will determine the balance of power during the second round of voting.
As of this moment, we have about $1,500 handy, but don't know what to do with
it, as there exist no unified coalition.
Suggestion: Why not pull our resources and talents, to launch selective and
collective interest-group ads, aimed at: STUDENTS, SECURITY FORCES PERSONNEL
AND WOMEN. With Yahya Jammeh's 'BILAI WALAI TALAI/SIX FEET DEEP THREAT TO
GAMBIANS/APRIL 10-11, 2001 SCREAMING STUDENT VOICES AND GUNFIRE in the
background, our message will hit home and make a dent on the psyche of the
voting public.
Since we, Gambians residing abroad had been disenfranchised, rather than
keeping our fingers crossed with endless hoping and praying, let's brainstorm
and get our message across to whomever will take the helm of our dear nation,
that we will never again sit idly by and be taken for granted.
