Habib,
I don't get that last part. If interest/Riba is prohibited, one should not
accept it in the first place. And after one acquires it and realizes that it
is wrong to do so, I would think that the correct thing would be to return
the money from where it was obtained. Spending that money on the education
of one's child means the person is benefitting from something obtained
illegitimately. The person is definitely benefiting because the money to be
spent on a child's education would have had to come from another part of
that person's finances. Even if that money is given to a charity, it still
raises the same questions for me. Wouldn't the best alternative be to return
the money where it was obtained and let that individual or group decide how
they want to spend their money or which charity they want to donate to?
I'm not sending this email to question Islam or start a debate on Islamic
law. I just wanted some clarification - if you can provide one.

Ousman
ps. FYI, I personally want and takes interest on money I save in a bank. And
I also believe that as result of inflation (and consequently the falling
purchasing power of money), it is legitimate for a lender to demand interest
on a loan.
