SIDIA JATTA CLARIFIES
  Fabakary .B. Ceesay
The National Assembly Member for Wuli East Constituency, Honorable Sidia Jatta, has dismissed rumours that he wanted to abandoned NADD for UDP. Addressing a rally at Serrekunda, Jatta, rubbished the rumour that he had a disagreement with Halifa Sallah, the NADD flag bearer, and that he is about to leave NADD. Honorable Jatta said that he heard lots of rumours that Omar Jallow (O.J) and his Family have run into exile and that Lamin Waa Juwara also wanted to abandon NADD. Jatta said that NADD is the only Opposition Party that has a representative at the parliament. He pointed out that NADD is clean and that no hands can make it dirty. He emphasised that NADD is the Party that can draw support from the APRC. He cited the 29th September 2005 by election as an example.
The Wuli NAM threw light on the resignation of Ousainou Darboe from NADD. He pointed out that, the day that the NADD executives met to discuss the flag bearer issue Darboe was absent. According to him, the other two (2) aspirant Candidates were present and that all of them swore that they would accept anybody selected by NADD. Mr. Jatta indicated that at the following executive meeting they were expecting Darboe to repeat the words altered by his colleagues. “Darboe said that there was betrayal, and in the process he has decided to resign and then tendered his letter of resignation.” Honorable Jatta noted that at that juncture he appealed for the meeting to be adjourned. “ I told Darboe that you are not on the right track and asked him to retrieve the letter and make it a secret until further notice,” Jatta said. Mr. Jatta narrated that they opened Darboe’s letter at their following meeting and it reads, “ I cannot abandoned my Party for another Party.” He said that
after the meeting, he called Darboe and proposed an audience with him and Darboe chose his house for the meeting.
According to Jatta, he advised Darboe to put the interest of the Gambian People top on their agenda and take things in good faith, but Darboe told him that he could not respond to him and gave him another date. Going further, Jatta said that his next meeting with Darboe was held at the latter’s office in Banjul. According to him, Darboe told him that he could not take his advice because he had already told the Gambians that he has resigned from NADD. “ I told him, ‘Ousainou, You are betraying Allah and the Gambia,’ but he said that it was too late for him to come back to NADD,” NAM Jatta explained.
