It has been in use even before/during the time of Pounds Shillings and
Pence but what do "Dalasi" and "Butut" mean? Some say " butut" is the
small one in Wolof. But is Dalasi Mandinka? If so what does it mean? Is
it from "daa la sio" Mandinka for the full dimension (?) or is borrowed
from Dollars - "Dallas"(?) - "Dalasi" a currency in circulation in the
area until the middle of the 19th Century? Any students of history out
there?
