Hello, all, how scary this must  have been for the family when they couldn't find their family member!
 
 
IMHO there should be some procedure to at least let a family member know when soemthing like this has happened, but I'm not sure what rights non-citizens/non-residents have in this country, and what someone's rights are should they be caught up in osmething like this.
 
 
Obviously, it would seem prudent for people in this situation, where your documentation isn't quite right to either do what you have to do to legalize your stay, or at least know what your rights are if you happen to be detained.
