 New website on Islam to be launched September 15

 (Washington, DC, September 9) - A new website will soon be launched to
 advance Islamic outreach further into the information age.  The Islam-online
 project, envisioned by renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi,
 will provide comprehensive resources on Islam and Islamic culture and
 civilizations.

 Founded by an international commission of prominent Muslim scholars and
 leaders, Islam-online will be a multilingual website (initially English and
 Arabic) featuring resources from sacred texts to cybercounseling.  The
 commission includes American Muslim Council secretary Abdurrahman Alamoudi,
 president of the American Muslim Foundation.

 The website, www.islam-online.com, will include the text of the Qur'an and
 selections from the Hadith, electronic fatwas, on-line discussions with
 Islamic scholars, a weekly magazine, and social services for all age groups.

 The brainchild of Sheikh Qaradawi, the project is intended to strengthen the
 intellectual and civilizational contributions of Islam to the ideological
 discourse of the next century.  The English-language version is directed by
 Fadel Lamen.

 The website is scheduled to be launched September 15, 1999.
