My name sounds Arabic as  I am mixed Sarahuleh and Arabic. My father was student at the al-Azhar in Cairo where he met my mum and.... I came out shouting.


I have reconnected to my roots in The Gambia and I feel more Gambian and more Sarahuleh than Arabic.


What Jaiteh said about the illegal migration is correct. It is a pressure valve. Migration is part of human nature and people will always go were they can secure their basic necessites ofl ife.


However, they should not forget contacting the Sarahulehs for "expert advice" on money-making. The Word JULA means "trader" in Sarahuels and is very old. A separate ethnic group called the JULA exists in Ivory Caost extenting the activites of the Sarahules as traders. Former Prime Minister Alhasan Ouattara is Jula.


The word JULA can also be found in Bambara/Bamana in Mali and is often use to describe the Sarahules who are also known as "Maraka" in Sierra Leone and Guinea


Politically speaking, the Sarahuleh are still not that active, except in Mali and Mauritania where they have political influence. In Niger the current President Tandja is Sarahule and the Senegasle PM Hadjibou Soumare is Sarahule.

CAN ANYONE NAME SOME GAMBIAN SARAHULEHS WHO ARE IN POLITICS OR ARE RISING POLITICAL STARS? I cannot go further with my resarch.
