Moro Jawla has decisively won the chieftaincy election of Sami . He defeated
the Aprc candidate who for more than two years illegally occupied the
position for which the people of Sami never elected him to. Like 21 other
chiefs, Yahya Jammeh imposed him on the people and it was only after
litigation initiated by Lawyer Darboe and a supreme court order that our
people have exercised their constitutional right to choose their
representatives. Even as they were hamstrung by an I.E.C who seems
preoccupied with making up draconian and undemocratic rules for this
particular contest, the people of Sami nonetheless sent a clear message to
this thug of a president and his cronies. The commissioner at Georgetown has
spent countless nites with a bunch of July 22 youth groups attempting to try
last ditch intimidation efforts in villages throughout the district. They
delivered explicit threats to folks they thought they could scare into
submission. It didn't work. This was all done in the dead of nit typical of
these vile and insidious bunch. First they try to disenfranchise the Gambain
people and after that fails they attempt to bully them. The good people of
Sami who I proudly call my own stood up to them and handed Yahya and his
goons their tails. Something tells me it is an important lesson for the rest
of the nation and the people would once and for all rid themselves of this
regime and all that it representatives. I urge list members and all Gambians
to join me in extending a heart felt congratulation to Seyfo Morro Jawla, the
elected chief of Sami. I pray that God give him the strength and integrity to
discharge his duties to all the people of his district and usher in fresh
breath justice and equal protection under the law.
