I was invited to a work shop last Friday in representing the Gambian community in my city. during deliberations on cultural issues ,many delegates kept on banging on about African drumming. this is use as a cultural example. i was a bit baffle. why do the westerners (some) of them mistakenly keep on thinking that our culture is drumming and music? any time some one talk to me,he/she make reference to drumming. what can we identify as a Gambian culture. i know it encompass many things ,but in a short unambiguous way ,what can we easily say is our culture? some even want me to organise a Gambian music event for them as if that is the reason for me to attend the event. we need to do a little explaining. any idea because i am attending another one on the 5Th of February 2008. i just want t tell them in case some asked what our culture. i have my own answer but i need more ideas on what a Gambian culture is .
