I am very pleased to share this information.  
 
My former "Half Die" neighbour and good brother Tony Loum (Webster) has  been 
named the "New York Times Librarian of the Year for Brooklyn Public  
Librarian. 
 
22 Public Librarians from across the country received this
award out of  over 1300 nominations.He is one of 3 New York City Librarians 
with this  honor this year. The other 2 are from New York Public and Queens 
Borough Public  Libraries. 
 
Congratulations Tony, keep up the good work. Please see below.

2007 New York Times Librarian Awards 

Great news! The winners  of the 2007 New York Times
Librarian Awards have been announced, and we have  a
recipient at BPL! Anthony Loum, coordinator of Adult
Services, is one of  this years 21 honorees and the
seventh BPL staff to win the prestigious  award,
joining colleagues Paul Smaldone (2005), Alla
Makeeva-Roylance  (2004), Boniface Wewe (2003), Leonard
Newman (2002), Elisa Glenn (2001) and  Eleanor Bukowsky
(2001).

Anthony began his BPL career as an assistant  branch
librarian at Cypress Hills. Prior to his current
position, Anthony  was the manager of Adult Library
Services for Cluster 1. In addition to  having a solid
background in public libraries, he has extensive
training  in academic librarianship and a masters
degree in Education, along with his  masters in Library
and Information Science.

Anthony is currently the  vice president/president-elect of the New York Black
Librarians Caucus; a  member of PLAs Membership
Committee; a member of the International  Relations
Committee of the Black Caucus of the American  Library
Association; and a past member of ALAs Committee on
Diversity. He  is also a reviewer of refereed journal
articles for Public Libraries  magazine.
