Fatoumata, I totally agree with you regarding your comments about Halifa Sallah. This man has given up all he could earn financially and status in the Gambian society in order to bring about meaningful democratic change in the Gambia. If Halifa Sallah and Sedia Jatta were interested in riches, they could use their vast knowledge and rob Gambians of our hard earn resources. We can all see a number of intellectuals who have effectively used their knowledge and power to aid and abate in mismanaging the affairs of our country. Sidia Jatta’s famous resignation letter from the PPP government contains the innermost feeling of a genuine son of the Gambia. His belief that the system was not serving the interest of the Gambians in general prompted him to resign. The system was inefficient and ineffective. Halifa Sallah and Sidia Jatta were offered ministerial posts by president Jammeh which they refused based on integrity. These guys are humble. Their words and actions are clear manifestations
 of who they really are.

FOROYA, a byproduct of pdois party, has indeed enlightened several Gambians about their government, their rights and their duties to Gambia. The paper always contains facts about the Gambian society.

I belief these guys are well educated and can find jobs with attractive benefits. If they are only interested in wealth and status in society they could find those jobs and achieve those desires. These guys live the simplest of lifestyle in order to achieve their dream of total emancipation of the Gambian people. In other words, Halifa and his friends have given up the flamboyant lifestyle they could live for peace, progress and prosperity for all Gambians irrespective of tribe or political affiliation.

Remember when a degree to ban all-political activities in the country was passed by the AFPRC government, the executive committee of pdois decided to publish the FOROYA news paper based on patriotic judgment. At the time FOROYA was an organ of the pdois which was legally banned by the degree. According to the executive committee, risking arrest, torture, or even death was a lesser opportunity cost to give for a culture of silence the degree intended, especially at the inception of a young military government. Immediately they started publishing open letters for the consumption of the military government and Gambian people at large. Halifa and sidia and many others were instrumentally active in the transition programs to civilian rule. Halifa used to conduct civic education programs.

Just look at the way they conduct their politics. Unlike other political parties in the Gambia, pdoise is the only party that does not use any form of corrupt inducement to gain political support. They simply present the programs they belief will improve the living standard of all Gambians and leave voters to decide our collective destiny. .
These and many other reasons made me to conclude that Halifa Sallah is very much qualified to be the flag bearer for NADD. The MOU that gave birth to NADD is aimed at series of rectification programs to bring about total emaciation and prosperity for all Gambians. This is exactly what Halifa has been advocating for the past few decades. Once he is at the helms of governmental affairs he will make sure the rectification programs are fully implemented at all levels of government. That is power would once again be vested in the hands of all Gambians. We would once again resume the responsibility of directing our collective destiny. One more thing, Halifa is more likely to respect all the provisions of the MOU. He will relinquish power at the end of the five years and will not support any political party or candidate in the proceeding election.
This does not mean that other politicians are not qualified for the post of flag bearer. Just that I think Halifa’s resume is more attractive than other politicians in the country. He has clearly demonstrated steadfastness in his attempt to bring about meaningful democracy in the Gambia.

I will be glad if more Gambians can see the points I am trying to make here. Halifa is humble in the way he does things, he is mature in his judgments, he is not power hungry, and he has vast wealth knowledge about nature. I belief strongly that a government led by Halifa Sallah will be proactive in dealing with the citizenry.

  Folks,

Lets give the credit t who deserves it!!!
Why all this cry about flagbearer when the right person is there before our
eyes? Why not Halifa Sallah?
First, I believe when NADD was created, it was a general consensus to
nominate him as coordinator. Since this was done, Halifa has been
exceptionally competent in managing the affairs of NADD. In fact he has
sacrificed all his time just for this. He has invested a lot has shown great
humility when all the others were thinking of presenting themselves as
possible candidates. I guess we intend to give NADD the opportunity to
create a democratic environment but we also intend to make the flagbearer a
respecful hardworking but a novice (in the sense that he has never contested
for the presidency before). Remember Halifa was nominated by consensus, so
why cant he be nominated again by consensus to lead NADD. This is no real
presidency i presume if i understood the MOU but a interim who will help
build a democratic set up in the Gambia for the future.

Long live Halifa Sallah as flagbearer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Long live NADD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Long live the Gambia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
