                                  PRESS STATEMENT

Ladies and gentlemen of the local and international press, we have
gone through a Presidential election on Friday 22nd September, 2006 and
now that we have received the declaration of results by the Chairman of
the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), we in the UDP/NRP/GPDP
Alliance wish to state that:

We totally reject the results declared by Jammeh’s IEC
whose Chairman had declared during his swearing in before the President
that eighty to ninety percent of the country are behind Jammeh.

Similarly, Jammeh himself had declared the outcome of the
elcections when he stated that neither the ballot nor a coup d’etat
could remove him from office. The declared results are therefore his
results and those of the security services who throughout the campaign
period and after, were seen displaying the ruling APRC party colours and
symbols on their vehicles, offices and on their persons.

We categoricallly state that the declared result does not
reflect the massive support that the UDP/NRP/GPDP Alliance have in this
country and which was expressed up to the end of the campaign on 20th
September, 2006.

We strongly believe that the use of force characterised by
intimidation and harassement as well as inducement by agents of the
Executive at the local level greatly influenced the peculiar voting
pattern reflected during the elections.

We therefore, totally reject the results and we call on all
our supporters to remain calm and vigilant and not to succumb to
provocation and harassment.

  UDP/NRP/GPDP Alliance
  Banjul.
