"You see as i told sister Ndey, the problem lies in the lack of knowledge of
their rights ( by our sisters) "

Habib -

You can say the above again which is at the root of why some of us suffer in
our relationships - knowledge! But, when you have elders resorting to tired
clichés of "lickor taka tasut kor" and delaying tactics by husbands with the
court's full knowledge, the suffering continues no end. I've tied our
(women's) suffering to the prevalence and persistence of poverty in the
world and I submit that as long as we continue to suffer emotionally and
economically, our capacity to contribute is undermined and poverty will
never leave us.

sister Jabou

I think this Cadi was corrupt or a freind of the husband, otherwise the
system works. The only other reason why there was a delay was to ensure that
the woman was NOT pregnant ( to protect the kid) and that waiting period is
usually 3 months.

The woman had another choice - go to a local Imam in here area or even
outside her area and based on the man's no show up if he summons him , then
the woman gets a divorse as requested.

They can demand and exercise the written laws of the man's responsibilities
like child support and alimony. yes indeed . Even if he becomes a dead beat
dad ( lord knows we have many here too ) the sister still has some leverage
to use and witnesses too
