DAKAR, Oct 20 (AFP) - Gambian and Senegalese medical authorities have
decided to step up medical monitoring along their border, an area
susceptible to the spread of AIDS and other diseases due to a large number
of travelers, Sengalese national radio RTS said on Sunday.
   "There is an extraordinary flux of migrants" along the border, said
Aliou  Diallo, chief medical officier for the Nioro region south of the
Sengalese city of Koalack.
   A high percentage of truck drivers is HIV positive, said Diallo, making
it difficult to control the spread of the disease across the region.
   Despite a lack of funding, Senegalese and Gambian medical officials
decided to step up monitoring for the disease and prevention efforts, said
RTS.
