Often we lose the meaning of these significant holidays for the pomp and
pageantry. With a shoestring budget and groping in the dark for life and
sustenance, The GambiaEcho, Freedomnewspaper, Senegambia News, All Gambian, The
Gambia journal, and Gainako, begun by fathers, stepfathers, husbands, and
boyfriends, have laboured to inform, educate, and entertain us. Because they share
our experiences and drudge for causes larger than self.
We honour and appreciate them and we pray for their continued good health
and sobriety.
I encourage all of us to support any one or all of these gallant fellow
citizens however we can. The cost of one cup of coffee, a pack of cigarettes, the
difference between a silk or linen tie, or a box of popsickles, when
combined with the gifts of our fellow citizens can save or enhance the life of these
alternative media we have come to value.
