Pa-Pierre,

I hate to say, it depends! I do not know any official tax, levy or

tariff for transiting Dakar airport. However some agents at the airport

are "Degerr Fit". I have witnessed a few incidences when travelers

(disproportionately from the coast ) have been asked to pay up for

having US Dollars, cellphones and other nifty gadgets. Often the choice

is drop a few cents or get some time wasted between arrival and departure.

Things may not be the same if you are disembarking in Yoff just to

travel by land to The Gambia. In that case you may need some convincing

that you are indeed getting to Amdalai and not Karang.

Things that work: a charming smile;old-fashioned "gran sa waa"; playing

like the local. A big no no: showing-off you are a Gambian "smarty-pant".

ps. I traveled through Dakar numerous times over the last 3 years.Only

once, I was asked to pay up. I was let go when the brother realized

that I am no "Semester" with a bag of dollars. All other times the

officials were VERY polite and professional.
