OPINION Tolerance, Selflessness and Trust: Key to NADD Victory By Biraa Go

---------------------------------

December 27, 2005
The hour of collective reasoning has arrived and it is duty bound on all Africans, not the least Gambian to free themselves from the yoke of collective suicide.

As much as we support NADD we have to agree that it is a marriage of convenience and very circumstantial but not a natural convergence of political entities. It is always re-iterated by all the members of this entity that they came together because of the simple fact that Jammeh effected a change in the constitution that does not allow for a second round in the presidential elections and due to this fact, they (the collective of political parties and movements converging in NADD) are urged by circumstances and the need to collectively fight off Jammeh's domination of the political arena regarding the Presidency.

We cannot and should not accuse Ousainou Darboe as a legitimate leader of a legitimate political party that has together with the other NADD leaders commit an administrative error due to naivety (by trusting the officials of the IEC - Independent Electoral Commission to register them justly) not knowing that there are elements at the IEC who are not working for the common interest of the Gambian people and registered them as a political party instead of a COALLISION (which they applied for) Jammeh and his cronies capitalized on this error with the connivance of the courts to put the Alliance in a state of having to accept the circumstances of their fate as time does not allow them to effect any delays in the progress they have made so far.

I urge all parties concern to engage themselves in a democratic debate to solve this simple question in which, with all due respect for Lamin Waa Juwara, Ousainou Darboe is right in reminding the members that NADD is but a DE FACTOR political party at this present moment but in actual fact it is an alliance of political entities engaged in a common cause in a given period of time as agreed. It is as important to have a strong person from each party in the NADD leadership but it is also as important to have a strong leader to continue the work of the original parties for the second phase of the development, rectification, reorientation and democratization process which NADD is spearheading.

We all love the Gambia but our actions must be based on TRUTH and JUSTICE.

Please return to the memorandum of understanding, which originally bind the coalition partners as a guide to progress and understand. We understand that all of you know that victory is near and are eager get rid of the Tyrant and his slaves as soon as possible but let us be collected and let our agreements guide us.

Our collective political culture is changing positively due to the creation of NADD and we cannot allow ourselves to arrest these developments. We should create a heaven for the Pan-African dream for liberty and progress. All the people living in the Gambia, be they Gambians or nationals of other African states, African American, African Brazilians, African Indians, African Australians or otherwise. Let us join hands and understand that Yahya Jammeh is not our target but African liberation.

Join the AFRIDA - African Freedom, Independence and Development Alliance.

I would like to thank the staff of the Allgambian online paper for their concern and timely action in drawing the attention of the community to this urgent issue of collective interest. I must also admit that you are heeding advices and reflecting on positive criticism in order to improve the quality of your work. Keep it up. This is the only just road if we want sincerity and democracy to prevail.
