Modou
I quite agree with you. The Gambian musicians never get the support they
deserve locally. I can fully remember Super Eagles later Ifang Bondi were
more respected and appreciated in Senegal than in the Gambia.
By then they spent most of their time in Senegal especially in st. louis
(ndarr). Some Gambian groups/society or organisations Would rather hire and
pay a hell of a money to Yusu ndure than paying even half that amount to
the Ifang Bondi. Our main problem is that we are not so proud of what is
ours. Some of our Gambian musicians have to either move to Senegal or
elsewhere in other to be well known.
I totally agree with Badou Jobe. Why do we have to wait until one dies
inorder to praise him and bring him to light. Paps Should have been given a
place in our educational institution to be teaching/lecturing music. It was
introduced some years ago when there were people like Jaliba Kuyateh
teaching the primary school pupils to play the Cora and Jali Banna Kanuteh
teaching them to play the xylophone ( balafong). I boubt very much if this
still exists.

Just a thought

Matarr
