I think I will join Malanding to commend Foroyaa on this intervention even
though this is not the only intervention made by them.
My only worry is that if we are talking about Law reform when even the law
that is at hand is violated, then the problem is more than just a law
reform. If ordinary citizens in the Gambia can be picked up anytime of the
day especially at night in the mids of their family and they disappear just
like that, I believe that there is a call for concern. I hope they would
not lead the country to a situation where by ordinary Gambians would start
using defence mechanism. That I believe is the last thing we would pray for.
I think this government is as dangerous as anything and hopefully they will
be very careful in the way they deal with issues. A government is not about
power but the use of ones senses. The PPP regime was bad that we all agree
but the disappearance of people, to my knowledge was not happening I could
be corrected if am wrong.
That brought me to the conclusion that we are dealing with a paranoid
government and that is the most dangerous syndromes a government can have. A
government that has no confidence, knowledge, ability and the will power to
govern is bound to be a government of thugs. The government has to realised
that they are not dealing with an army but civilians. The ordinary Gambians
are not soldiers they need to command but civilians of whom they need to
govern.
As the saying goes, you can kill people, you can arrest people, you can
detain people, you can jail, people, you can torture people but what you
can't stop is +ACI- positive change+ACI-.
My solidarity goes to the all the families who have to go through this
difficult situation where the government who is suppose to protect you, is
the one you are protecting yourself from.
