JAMMEH WILL BE HISTORY SOON-DARBOE/HAMAT BAH DECLARES AS THOUSANDS OF OPPOSITION FANS ATTEND BRIKAMA RALLY !!!!

In what was described as a major political gathering in the town of Brikama, Saturday, United Democratic leader Ousainou Darboe, told his jubilant supporters that the UDP/NRP alliance will send President Yahya Jammeh's government packing come October, 2006. Darboe, who appeared focused explained to his followers that the circumstances that led to his sudden resignation from NADD. The UDP leader says there was distrust amongst coalition leaders and as such he Darboe, was not convinced that such a political front can be a success story. The UDP leader says Gambians are yearning for change of political leadership and his party will team up with NRP to realise such a dream.

The political rally characterised by drumming and cultural songs spearheaded by UDP and NRP supporters attracted political big wigs in the West African country. Addressing an excited crowd of supporters, Darboe insisted that his decision to resign from NADD was welcomed by his followers and that his party was prepared to team up with local parties to oust Jammeh from power. He used the Brikama rally to announce that his party had formed an alliance with the opposition National Reconciliation Party (NRP). Mr.Darboe, a twice failed Presidential candidate crowned Mr.Bah as a dedicated Gambian committed in rescuing the country from Jammeh's misrule. It was Darbo's contention that such an alliance will posed as a serious threat to the Ruling APRC.

Our Banjul Correspondent, who attended the rally says the turn out was impressive despite the recent leadership shakeup in NADD. Several thousands of opposition fans attended the rally, which lasted for hours. It is not yet clear whether the remaining parties under NADD will continue with their program to unseat Jammeh through the ballot box.

Also addressing the Brikama rally was NRP leader Hamat Bah, who appealed to Gambians to rally behind the UDP/NRP alliance to effect democratic change in The Gambia. Mr.Bah says he was highly optimistic that such a merger will succeed in flushing Jammeh out of office. The NRP leader says Gambians want change and come October Jammeh and his cronies will be send packing. Bah, who was applauded by the gathering said, he had no regrets in associating his party with the UDP adding that the NRP will team up parties committed in rescuing Gambians from political decadence and impunity. He claims that the UDP commands the strongest following in the country and as such his party deems it necessary to form an alliance with such a party. Bah also warns Gambians to desist from politics of tribalism and move on to salvage the country from Jammeh's rule. Bah, says Jammeh will soon be history.

Mr.Bah's deputy Dullo Bah earlier endorsed the nomination of prominent Gambian politician Omar Amadou Jallow alias (OJ), as NADD flag bearer. However, Dullo's move never went down well with Hamat, who according to sources strongly protested over such a political decision on the side of Dullo Bah. The reasons surrounding Hamat's objection to OJ's nomination were never made public, but NRP sources hinted that the issue had been taken care off by the party. It would be recalled that Mr.Bah's party used to have two seats in the National Assembly. Bah, a great political debater, succeeded in exposing numerous corruption scandals against the ruling APRC. Chief among such corruption scandals, was the "Abacha 1996 crude oil deal", which was a subject of heated debate in the National Assembly.

Opposition Chairmen and women spoke at the rally and assured their unflinching support for the new opposition alliance.
