Greetings Gambia-L,
It has been a very long time since I last wrote! I had intended to come back
in a proper manner, by explaining to those who have not been in contact with
me in private that I moved to the UK in November 2000. Already before my
departure from Germany, it has been a struggle to catch up with the speed of
events in my life, but gradually I am now settling down. I also intended to
give you an update of the April 11 Massacre Fund.
Since the last update on Gambia-L about the April 11 Massacre fund, some
more contributions were made to the Europe account, and I intend to detail
the state of both accounts shortly. In that regard, I would like to request
all those who contributed to the Fund after August 2000 to get in touch with
me, and help me confirm the records. The balance up to date, of the Europe
account, stands at ?1332.06.
The main purpose of this mail is to put the case of some of the students who
were injured during the April Massacre before Gambia-L for consideration. It
was brought to our knowledge that some of the injured students are still
languishing in hospitals in The Gambia without any prospects of receiving
proper medical attention. It was therefore suggested that part of the Fund
should be used to assist these people to at least travel to a country where
they can be treated. The initial amount involved is about 1000 US Dollars.
Before taking any action we thought it appropriate to seek the approval or
otherwise of Gambia-L. I would also like to take this opportunity to invite
recommendations on how to proceed with the money left in the Fund.
We are looking forward to your useful comments.
