This is to announce the alpha version of the Atlas of the Gambia Project. The Atlas is an ambitious public education program aimed at providing information on biophysical and socioeconomic aspects of Gambia life. I am hoping that it will grow into a site where students, scholars, policy-makers and the curious could go and get maps, charts and tables about the Gambia's land and water resources as well as information on the people, culture and economy.
Before going public I thought I should ask for your comments and suggestions on both the content and mechanics of the website. Please note that this is meant to be a collaborative project and anyone interested in contributing either as authors, reviews or photographers just sent me a note at [log in to unmask]
My sincere thanks to all those out there who helped provide the data. Special thanks to Pa Modou Gassama (Jungle Sunshine) for providing the hardcopy of the basemap and all the folks at the various Government Departments for much of the data used in the writeup. And finally my thanks to the Gambia-l folks for their encouragement behind the scene.
