Dear Gambia-L,
I have during the past days been writing privately to many Gambia-l subscribers
to limit the excessive quoting of mails to the L. This is due to the fact that
we should respect the policy of St. Johns University, the host of Gambia-l that
requires all listowners to enforce a policy of limited quoting or risk
sanctions being imposed upon their lists.

We don't want Gambia-L sanctioned and therefore we should all do our best to
not send unnecessary text along with our mails.

People would be able to follow the discussion thread if you do not change the
subject of the original mail you are replying and therefore it is not necessary
to include the entire original mail.

Please change the preferences of your e-mail program (e.g Hotmail, Outlook
Express etc.) so that it does not enclose the mail that you are replying to in
the mail that you intend to send to the Gambia-l. You could also manually
remove all or most of the text in the bottom of your e-mail when replying to
mails to the Gambia-l.

A typical example of excessive quoting is the mail below where Bakary Kanteh
replies to a mail that Malik wrote who also included the whole message that
Tombong sent. Unnecessary or excessive quotes are when you include the whole
text or another senders mail together with your reply.

Mr Kanteh and Mr. Kah, I am sorry for taking your mails as an example because
there are others too I could have used.

Thank you!

Eid Mubarak and Merry Christmas to everyone.

Momodou Camara
