Ebrima Ceesay and Co:

Since the subject is soccer or shall I say football I'm going to take you
guys to task. Can you come up with an eleven we can consider the Gambian
team of the century.

I will throw mine out first:
Goalkeeper: Baboucarr Saho
Defense: Lamin Owens, Garba Touray, Edarr Kah, Saloum Njie
Midfield: Musa Njie, saihou Sarr and Star Jallow
Forward: Aziz Corr, Birri(Player of the Century) and Bai Malleh Wadda

I'm sure a lot will disagree with my lineup but I can put up a very strong
argument for each player. I must admit, it was very hard to pick Saloum Njie
over Commy Owens and even Saho over Sega Jobe and Sang Ndong. One of my
favorite mid-field players was E.K but he left too prematurely for
Scandinavia and couldn't justify having him over any of those three
gentlemen in the middle. The other one was Jim Bittaye of Kwame(I know
you're asking Jim Who?)may his soul rest in peace. Only if he was serious
with the game he would have been a great one. I also thought about replacing
the late Dodou saine with Edarr Kah, but my love for Starlight couldn't let
me...sorry!

Because its not easy to come up with only eleven players as the team of the
century is what makes it a task. I'm sure this debate will go on beyond this
forum.

BTW, I was shocked by Adama Sey to mentioned my name in the same breath with
these great players. I never thought my name will ever surface in Gambian
football discourse anywhere at all. Thank you sir!

HAPPY RAMADAN!!!

Regards
Baboucarr Sillah
