Hi!
Thanks Musa Jeng for giving us your impression of The Gambia after your trip. A friend of mine was in The Gambia for nine months and he came to visit me about a week and a half ago. We had a discussion about the situation in The Gambia. The guy was kind of an independent when he left here but listening to him now, one could be forgiven for thinking that he is the government's propaganda secretary. His arguments went along the same lines you narrated and he countered many arguments regarding civil rights. His line of thinking was that many people in the Diaspora were being misled and that it was rather pompous to sit in comfortable houses not worrying about survival issues and expect the people of The Gambia to have the same views.

What this seems to indicate is as expressed by Sidibeh, Abdoulies Njie and Saine a call for rational thinking. Questions need to be asked from a point that is not locked either for or against Jammeh because in order to represent or look after the interests of the people, one has
understand what makes them tick. One has to ask why human rights issues are outweighed by infastructural developments and many other questions. Thanks.
                                                                                                Buharry.
