BANJUL, Sept 11 (AFP) - Gambian President Yahya Jammeh declared Wednesday a

public holiday to commemorate the attacks against the United States on
September 11, 2001.
In a message broadcast on radio and television late Tuesday, Jammeh
condemned those who used religion as a pretext to carry out acts of violence.
"Mankind must stand up and act against all acts of violence, be it terror
or war, as violence or war will not serve any good," Jammeh said.
"We must get rid of hate in our hearts and share what we have with
humanity... to come together as one family."
The entire world had been affected by the attacks on New York and
Washington, the Gambian leader said, recalling that two Gambians had died at
the World Trade Centre.
