Suntou,
Before I begin, I want to assure you that you were not talking about me in
your poem. And if you were, more power to you. However I am concerned about you
 a bit.

I don't know how to put it but I find you a bit intolerant.

"now i know, i have stepped on some body's toes." Suntou.

This is to be expected Suntou. If you look at the history of poetry and
particularly shakespearean sonnets, you will understand that poetry is the
representation of culture and life in more artistic and sometimes ecumenical style.
What better poetry is there than the Quoran and Bible. Obviously, a poem is
useless if it does not appeal to or address someone in society, your excuses
not-withstanding. In other words your poem was speaking of someone even if
you can't identify who it were. It could have been the Lapplander who travelled
from the Fjords to Malmo. If ever so temporal. So I want you to relax and
imagine that your assurances that you are not talking about someone in your
poems are themselves disingenuous.

"i posted my poem to some papers." Suntou.

Next time, I will let the papers see value in your poems and solicit you for
their publication. Not the other way around. A good poet does not demand
publication of his/her poems.

"then another heavy weight posted his own poem," Suntou.

WHY WOULD YOU WORRY ABOUT ANOTHER HEAVY-WEIGHT or LIGHT-WEIGHT posting
his/her own poem???????????????? I do not understand your frame of mind.

"trying to set standards and calling on would be poets to learn from some
Nigerian." Suntou.

I have not read the poem you are talking about but how did you know that
poet was trying to set standards? If he encourages you to learn from some
Nigerian, why wouldn't you spring at that opportunity to see if you can indeed
learn anything from the Nigerian to improve your own skills?????????? I want you
to understand something. In my affinity for Shakespeare and Robespierre, I
have come to understand that there are as many forms and style as there are
disparate cultures and peoples. This means that each and every poet can learn
something new from another anywhere. Not so much to improve, but to be educated
by variety and the unknown prior.

"using big words .hm-mm. is the learned brothers and sisters still living
the bully life style." Suntou.

Why would you want to manufacture victimhood from mere advice to be
educated?????? There are other burdensome problems you must consider. I would not
try to compound my problems by manufacturing another problem of victimhood.
Pretty soon you'd run out of time to solve any of your problems.

"trying to silence other with rhetoric and heavy English grammar?" Suntou.

Suntou, why are you insinuating that that was the intent of the
alter-poet??? Don't you think you had pre-disposed yourself to be intolerant of another
poet poet to confer oppressive nature him??? You cannot be the great poet you
want to be if you maintain this attitude. And if it is any comfort, I want to
share with you that rhetoric and heavy or light English grammar cannot
silence anyone or anything. Even an empty barrel is louder.

"English is the language of our former colonial masters." Suntou.

What does that have to do with anything Suntou????? You remmember that you
wrote your poem in English. Not Wollof, Fula, Jola, Mandinka, Sarahule, or
serer. There must be something about English that you like. I admire English as
much as I admire Wollof, Fula, Jola, French, Mandinka, Sarahule, Arabic,
Serer, and Singhalese. The variety of language itself is poetry for you. Our
colonial masters could have spoken Portuguese. What does that have to do with
which language we choose to communicate with our fellow citizens and friends. Do
you not think the English are proud of their language? What is wrong with you
Suntou? I like you but you confound me often.

"why boast about it? why try to bully your co-country men with it? you may
think long debaters in Gambian forums would be any wiser, but hey think
again.they are still childish. bullying as never work with me." Suntou.

Why are you starting an unnecessary and useless fight??? When you two could
be learning from each other's poems???? What is wrong with you Suntou? Just
relax and recoup. If you are interested in this man's poem, read it. If not,
read something else, perhaps in Chechniyari. Please give us peace.

[an anonymous writer on my blog warned me of not understanding the other
side of the problem. i wonder what she means.she is now calling me a hypocrite.
ooooh. that is too much.this is what she has to say.

''Anonymous said...

suntu, thanks for your nice pice. i know sombody who has similar problem but
i think he has some justice on his side. imagine you were one of these men.
your old queen makes your life a hell; she insults your mother and calls her
whore, she never respect you, and she tells your childrens bad things about
you, and when you call you always get angry becos she say bad thing to you,
will you still love her and treat her as queen? I think it is hypocritical of
you to pass judgemnt without thinking of the other side of the coin. As a
muslim i adivse you to be careful before judging because then you will be a big
hypocrit and not muslim. take heed.''

sister F.] Suntou.

Suntou, I know you understand what a blog is. A blog is you sharing your
thoughts, but instead of in a casual meeting or at home with your family, you
decide to reach the entire world by going LIVE, PRIME TIME, ONLINE. Surely you
do not expect everyone in the world to think the same way you do or of the
same things your small mind conjures. Or is this in the service of Islam in
Dawah??? Suntou I am not pleased with you right about now. I would think you
understand life. Remmember you also make it possible on your blog for people to
share their impressions of your thoughts with you. Oh brother. I think with
your intolerance, you are setting yourself up for the kill. Hell even if I
agree with your thoughts, I might just become a poet and assume the position of
another who disagrees with your thoughts and get on your blog. Can't you see
you can't control what others think or say??????? Please give us our peace.

Jesus Friggin Christ.
Haruna Friggin Darbo. I almost shared one of Shakespeare's poems with you
addressing exactly a personality such as yours Suntou, but luckily for you I
don't have much time. I am too happy for Hillary at this moment to even speak
with your behind. Besides there are more important issues in this world such as
the sale and purchase of Gambia and Freedom for Kanyibaa and Fatou Jaw
Manneh than idiotic and juvenile tantrums of Suntou, Carnegie Minerals, and Yahya
Jammeh. Bye!!!

SUNTOU TOURAY <[log in to unmask]> wrote: just to clarify. this poem is
not about any body. it is just a general observation. ''when bones are
mention in a story, old people felt unease''. Allah is my witness, i did not target
any person. it is a common phenomenon in our society. men switch camps in
the marital bed. the mannyo syndrome.

SUNTOU TOURAY wrote: O MEN OF TODAY

By Suntou Touray

This little piece is dedicated to all mothers in the Senegambia whose
husband's took up second wife and left the first wife cold-shouldered. The phrase
our 'mothers' is meant to include all mothers as women of grace and honour.

A common trend of abandoning the first wife is despicable.
The bound that was first in place is the most honourable.
The relationship that flourished when wealth was little is most genuine.
The love that prevailed then was the most mutual.
The laughers and jokes joyously shared came from the hearts most real.
The passionate kisses and stirs were for love indeed.

O MAN OF TODAY
For whom the downing of age brings with it the lowering of affections.
Why love that was there turns into just mere familiarity?
The friendship needed to help overcome disagreement is all but gone.
No more laughter; no light hearted jokes to share.
It all fades way But why?.

O MAN OF TODAY
Why have you changed old man?
What has the once good and beautiful woman done wrong?
The mandate to take up another love is part of our culture.
But why go about it this ugly way?
You have eyed a younger love, a younger darling, a younger sweet heart.
The older queen says not a problem with that.
No power to stop you from engaging your new found fairy
The old queen fears about you taking up another bride
The fear of being left out is telling.
Many men have done just that.

O MAN OF TODAY
Think of yesterday when life was different
Why swift your allegiance to another so uncompromisingly?
The older queen is left bewildered.
Man of grace can you imagine the loneliness?
Once the new queen takes over the older one is left alone.
Man of today will you remember yesterday?
You make it like the older queen is of no use any more.
You hardly talk to her.
Your kind heart is taken over by another angel of merry making.

You talk but not with her. You smile but not with her.
You still joke but still not with her, but why, why, why.

O MAN OF TODAY
Do you even wonder, wonder how your old love is feeling?
What happened to the good old days?
When the two of you enjoy much fun
With least money and little material.
Now you are not interested in the past.

You are madly in-love; so blindly in-love with this new bride.
You block all the thoughts of the past.
You even try to distance from your own children.
Just to avoid offending the new iron lady
A lady of higher demands and commands.

It is then that the old queen realises that the old love is no more.
With your body present but gone your spirit in the wilderness.
How many women are left on the side line for the younger brides?
Man you still think you are younger.
Yes you hide behind tradition allowing you second and third wife.
For every privilege there are obligations
You are bound by rules laid down by God.
For those wishing to take another bride.
Do you imagine what penalties lies ahead, man of today?

You call it education, you call it being wise
Account yourself before you are accounted.
Look into yourself and see how the old love is feeling.

Remember the good old days.
Remember when it was the two of you
Mirror in the feelings of the older queen.
She deserves not to be left alone.
Treat your children equally. Treat your spouses equally.
If you know you can't handle two love then stick with one.

Man of today don't be ungrateful.
Your children may abandon you also.
They may not tolerate their mother being left alone.
They cannot accept her sadness.

O MAN OF TODAY
Remember time is not on your side.
The hammer of the lord awaits all tyrants and persons of injustice.
Don't fool yourself

Stop now. Correct your misguided actions.
Apologise to the old queen!! .
Bring her back into your life, let true love take over again
