LOME, Sept 20 (AFP)- Leaders from several Organisation of African Unity
(OUA) states will meet Ivory Coast's junta leader chief General Robert Guei
and the country's main political parties on Monday (25 September) here, the
Togolese foreign minister annouced. The leaders will discuss the current
crisis in Ivory Coast, where tensions have shot up ahead of presidential
elections slated for next month. On Monday, disgruntled mutineers attacked
Guei's home in the economic capital, but the junta chief escaped
unscathed. The raid has been described as an assassination attempt against
Guei, who is running for president in October 22 polls. "Most of the heads
of state have already confirmed their participation," Togolese foreign
minister Joseph Kokou Koffigoh told AFP. The "group of 10" includes Togo,
the sitting president of the OAU, South Africa, Algeria, Burkina Faso,
Djibouti, Gabon, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria and Senegal.
