NIGERIA

Two Ebonyi Voice journalists released provisionally

Imo Eze, the director of the Ebonyi Voice daily 
newspaper, and one of his journalists, Oluwole 
Elenyinmi, were released provisionally today in 
accordance with an agreement reached previously 
between Ebonyi state governor Sam Egwu and the 
Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Their release came a day after Reporters Without 
Borders wrote to the governor asking him to 
respect the agreement. Their trial on charges of 
conspiracy, sedition and libelling the governor 
is due to resume on 5 September.

Les deux journalistes d'Ebonyi Voice remis en liberté provisoire

Imo Eze et Oluwole Elenyinmi, respectivement 
directeur et journaliste du quotidien privé 
Ebonyi Voice, ont été remis en liberté provisoire 
le 25 août 2006, conformément à l'accord passé 
entre le gouverneur de l'Etat d'Ebonyi, Sam Egwu, 
et le Syndicat des journalistes nigérians 
(Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ).

Le 24 août, Reporters sans frontières avait 
adressé un courrier au gouverneur, afin de lui 
demander de respecter son engagement. 

Leur procès doit reprendre le 5 septembre.
